A smart bunch of birds! ;)

Yes, I've seen them look in fry containers, and
if they see a fry, they'll tip the back end of
the container, to dump it out.

Also, a day or so ago, I saw a crow drinking
from a small coffee cream container - you know,
the kind that comes with your cup of coffee.
That crow had opened the container, and
managed to keep it upright while drinking
the contents. However, I soon found that I
had too many irons in the fire, so to speak. So,
I've done very little with it, unfortunately.

However, I do plan to occasionally make some
posts, including uploading more interesting pics
of crows and other corvids. So, we'll see how
things develop, as time passes.

I still have a group of six crows that visit me
on a regular basis. They are wonderful friends
and we entertain each other. I recently started
to learn the ukulele, so I play it outside for
my crows and other bird and animal friends.

Well, I must go for now. As a result, I've been
taking photos from my kitchen window.

It's been quite a game! Excellent sight enable the crows to detect
my presence near the window -- they seem to enjoy flying away just
as I'm about to take a photo.

Now, I simply approach the window, and snap the photos without
trying to frame them in advance. Occasionally, it works well, and
I'm able to capture an interesting crow picture.

I'll be back soon and post a few of those photos.

All the best,
Laurie

Some Crow Observations....

Hi,

We had a sunny, cool Sunday, here on the south shore of Nova
Scotia. I went outside around 10 o'clock this morning and noticed
that my crows were sitting around on the oak and maple trees near
the house. I say "my" crows, not because they are tame, pet crows,
but because they've been coming to my yard and surrounding area
for years now.

At first, there were three crows, and, later, as high as thirteen
flocked together in the area. That was about ten years ago. The
number changes with the years. This year I have five crows that are
regular visitors. Well, more like four crows and a raven. For some
reason, a young raven seems to have been accepted into the group.
Interesting. At least one of the crows has been in the group from
the beginning. I recognize this crow, because it is tamer than the
others. I figure it's fifteen to seventeen years old.

Well, I'm off, now. I hope you are enjoying the blog!

All the best,
Laurie

Crows Near My Window

Hi,

This morning as I looked out my kitchen window, I noticed three crows walking about near one of the woody bushes in the yard. One of those crows was digging away in the grass near the woody bush. It was after the bird seed that I had deposited there last evening.

I was amazed at how diligently the crow was digging away in the tall grass near the bush. It was using both beak and feet to help extract the seeds from amongst the tangled grasses.

I tried to get a photo but the crow noticed my movement with the camera and flew away.

Oh well, I suppose we should be satisfied with experiencing such events rather than photographing them.:)

All the best!
Laurie

Welcome to My Latest Blog!

Hi,

This is the companion blog to my website, The Way of the Crow.

In the weeks and months ahead, I will post various insights about crows and ravens, about crow and raven medicine, and about observations of those birds in the wild.

My best regards,
Laurie

p.s.
